Azerbaijan Airport Taxi — Baku Airport Transfer Guide
Everything you need to know about getting from Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) to your destination —
taxi fares, popular routes, booking methods, parking and alternatives.
Azerbaijan Airport Taxi — Why It Matters
Azerbaijan has 7 international airports: Heydar Aliyev (GYD) in Baku, Ganja (GNJ), Gabala (GBB),
Lankaran (LLK), Nakhchivan (NAJ), Zangilan (ZZE) and Fuzuli (FZL). The vast majority of passenger traffic flows
through Baku's Heydar Aliyev International Airport — by far the country's busiest hub.
In 2024, GYD served 7.54 million passengers across 59,238 flights on 80
routes operated by 40 airlines (18 of them low-cost carriers). That is a 31% increase
over 2023, making GYD the 11th-busiest airport in the post-Soviet space. Transit passengers grew 1.3 times to
373,400 — a sign of Baku's rising role as a connecting hub between Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
With passenger numbers growing rapidly, getting from the airport to the city efficiently has become essential.
The airport is 25 km from central Baku, and the range of transport options — official taxis,
ride-hailing apps, the AeroExpress bus and pre-booked private transfers — can be confusing for first-time
visitors. A reliable airport taxi or transfer service solves three problems at once: fixed pricing,
door-to-door convenience and no language barrier.
The most popular international destinations from GYD are Moscow, Istanbul, Tbilisi, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Domestic flights to Nakhchivan are the busiest internal route — 350,000 passengers in the first half of 2024 alone.
Overview of Taxis at Baku Airport
There are four main ways to get a taxi at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD):
Baku Taxi (Official State Taxi)
The only state-licensed taxi company operating directly at the airport. Uses London-style cabs (TX4 and LEVC TX). Located at the exit of Terminal 1. You can book at the kiosk inside the terminal, by calling 1000, or via their mobile app. Drivers are uniformed and vehicles are clean and spacious.
Ride-Hailing Apps (Bolt, Yango, Uber)
Bolt is the most popular app in Azerbaijan, followed by Yango and Uber. Prices are shown upfront, pickup takes 3–7 minutes from the airport. You meet the driver at a designated pickup zone outside the terminal. Payment by card or cash through the app.
Pre-Booked Private Transfer
Book online before you fly. A driver meets you at the arrivals exit with a nameplate, tracks your flight for delays, and takes you straight to your hotel. Fixed price, no haggling. Ideal for families, groups, night arrivals and intercity destinations like Gabala or Sheki.
Unofficial Street Taxis
Drivers may approach you inside the terminal offering rides. These are not licensed and often overcharge. Avoid them — use the official kiosk, a ride-hailing app or a pre-booked transfer instead.
Taxi Fares from Baku Airport
Official Baku Taxi uses a tiered meter system: the first 0–10 km costs one rate, 10–20 km another, and beyond
120 km a third long-distance rate. Waiting time is charged after the first 15 minutes. Ride-hailing apps like
Bolt start at roughly 1.20 AZN with 0.40 AZN per km — significantly cheaper
than street taxis, which charge 0.80 AZN per km or more.
A pre-booked private transfer offers a fixed price agreed at booking time — typically
25–35 AZN from GYD to central Baku for an economy vehicle. This does not change with traffic,
time of day or surge demand.
The airport does not publish a single fixed taxi tariff. Always confirm the fare at the official Baku Taxi kiosk before departure, or use an app / pre-booked transfer for a guaranteed price.

Where to Find a Taxi at Baku Airport
Official Taxi Kiosk
The Baku Taxi kiosk is located inside Terminal 1 near the arrivals exit. Go to the desk, tell the operator your destination, and pay for a receipt. The driver is waiting outside at the designated taxi stand. This is the most straightforward option for tourists.
Ride-Hailing Pickup Zone
When you book via Bolt, Yango or Uber, the app directs you to a designated pickup zone outside the terminal — typically across the road from arrivals. Check the app map for the exact pin. Match the licence plate and vehicle colour before getting in.
Pre-Booked Transfer Meeting Point
For pre-booked private transfers, your driver meets you at the arrivals exit — after passport control and baggage claim — holding a nameplate with your name. No kiosk, no queue, no searching for a pickup zone. Your voucher includes the exact meeting instructions.
Avoid drivers who approach you inside the terminal or just outside the doors offering a ride. They are not licensed, often overcharge, and have no accountability. Use the official kiosk, a ride-hailing app or a pre-booked transfer.
Types of Airport Taxis
Airport taxis at GYD differ by budget, vehicle class, comfort level and capacity. Here are the main categories:
Economy (App Taxi)
Standard sedan from Bolt, Yango or Uber. Fits 1–4 passengers with 2–3 suitcases. Cheapest option for city-center destinations. No meet-and-greet, no flight tracking.
Official London Cab
Baku Taxi's TX4 or LEVC TX London-style cabs. Spacious interior, uniformed driver, wheelchair accessible. Book at the airport kiosk or call 1000. Higher fare than apps, but fixed at the desk.
Comfort / Business
Premium sedan (Mercedes E-class, BMW 5-series or similar) for executive travel, VIP guests and business trips. Available as a pre-booked transfer. Polished impression on arrival.
Minivan (4–7 pax)
For families with children, groups of friends, or travelers with excess luggage. Fits 4–7 passengers and 4–7 suitcases. Pre-book in advance — not available at the taxi kiosk or through most apps.
Minibus (10–19 pax)
For large groups, wedding parties, corporate delegations and event transfers. One vehicle for everyone — no split logistics. Must be pre-booked at least 24 hours in advance.
Family / Child Seat
Economy or comfort vehicle equipped with child seats, requested at booking. Required by Azerbaijan law for children below a certain age and height. Specify the child's age for the right seat.

Payment Methods
Cash (AZN)
Accepted everywhere — official taxis, app taxis (cash option) and pre-booked transfers (partial prepay + cash to driver). Always carry small AZN notes.
Card (Visa / Mastercard)
Accepted in ride-hailing apps (Bolt, Yango, Uber). Official taxis are required to carry POS terminals since 2024. Not always guaranteed — carry cash as backup.
Online Payment
For pre-booked transfers: pay the full amount by card online at booking, or choose partial prepayment and pay the rest in cash to the driver.
Airport Kiosk Receipt
At the Baku Taxi kiosk in Terminal 1, you pay by cash or card and receive a printed receipt. Hand it to the driver — no payment needed in the car.
Tips for Passengers
Avoid Unofficial Offers
Do not accept rides from drivers who approach you inside the terminal. Use the official kiosk, a ride-hailing app or a pre-booked transfer. Licensed taxis have yellow-black checker stripes and a "TAKSI" roof sign.
Agree the Fare Before Riding
If using a street taxi or official taxi without a kiosk receipt, always agree on the total fare before getting in. Meters are not always used in non-app taxis. A typical airport-to-center fare is 25–35 AZN.
Allow Time for Passport Control
At peak hours, passport control and baggage claim can take 30–45 minutes. If you pre-booked a transfer, the driver waits up to 90 minutes for free. If using an app, order it only after you have collected your luggage.
Know Your Luggage Size
When booking a transfer, specify the number of large suitcases and carry-ons. A standard sedan fits 3 suitcases; a minivan fits 4–7. Oversized items (skis, strollers) require prior arrangement.
Night Arrivals
Late-night arrivals (after midnight) mean fewer taxis and longer app wait times. Pre-booking a transfer is the safest option — your driver is guaranteed to be there regardless of the hour.
Child Seats Are the Law
Azerbaijan law requires child seats for young children. Standard taxis rarely carry them. When booking a transfer, request a child seat and specify the child's age to get the right one.
Alternatives to Taxis
AeroExpress Bus H1
The cheapest option from GYD to central Baku. Runs 24/7 — every 20 min (06:00–23:15) and every 45 min (23:15–06:00). Goes to Baku Railway Station / "28 May" metro. Fare: 1.30 AZN (requires a BakiKart, 2 AZN for the card). Journey time: ~30 min.
Metro (via H1 Bus)
There is no direct metro line to the airport. Take the H1 bus to "Koroglu" or "28 May" metro station, then transfer to the Baku Metro. Metro fare: 0.40 AZN with BakiKart. Useful if your hotel is near a metro station and you travel light.
Car Rental
Major international rental agencies (Avis, Hertz, Sixt, local companies) operate at GYD. Requires International Driving Permit. Useful for exploring Azerbaijan independently — especially Gabala, Sheki, Gobustan and the Caucasus mountain roads.
Hotel Shuttle
Some 4- and 5-star hotels in Baku offer airport shuttle service — either complimentary or for a fee. Check with your hotel in advance. Availability is limited and usually requires a reservation.
Shared Transfer
Some transfer platforms offer shared shuttle services at a lower price per person. You share the vehicle with other travelers heading to nearby hotels. Longer travel time but budget-friendly for solo travelers.
Private Driver (Hourly)
Hire a chauffeur with a car for a half-day or full day — ideal for sightseeing trips to Gobustan, Ateshgah, Yanar Dag or the Absheron Peninsula. Fixed hourly rate, English-speaking driver on request.
